Icelandic-broody-on-nest

The flattened posture and Zen-like concentration indicate this Icelandic hen is “broody”—ready to set a clutch of eggs for three weeks to hatch her chicks. Since the broody trait has been bred out of most modern breeds, its retention by Icie hens is one of the major reasons I’ve chosen Icelandics as my more self-sufficient breed.
